CHAPTER

TWENTY-ONE

By noon, the team had reassembled in the jet’s conference room.

Liesel and Ricky went first, sharing the pictures they’d taken of the mysterious facility on Jurong Island.

“No pictures of the backside?” Ananke asked.

“There wasn’t a road that led back there,” Liesel said. “And we were too exposed to use the drone.”

Ricky set his phone on the table. The map on the screen featured Jurong Island dead center, and parts of mainland Singapore along the left side and top. He pointed at the channel off the island’s west coast.

“All we need is a boat,” he said. “Go in at night, send the drone from here. We should be able to get the shots we need without ever going onshore.”

Ananke studied the map. The channel he’d pointed at was likely used by commercial shipping, so whichever team member went, Ananke wouldn’t want them staying in the area too long. But it wasn’t a bad idea. “See what you can find out about patrols first. Then we’ll talk about it.” She turned to Rosario and Dylan. “Kreuger?”

“We searched her condo and covered it with cameras,” Rosario said. “When she’s home, she won’t be able to breathe without us knowing it.”

“Did you find anything?”

“Not sure yet. She had a safe. I’ve got pictures of everything that looked important and copied the thumb drives I found. I just need to go through it all.”

“What about her office?” Ananke asked.

Rosario shook her head. “We couldn’t find a way in that wasn’t too risky.”

That was disappointing, but not unexpected. Keeping Avanti from knowing they were hunting him was vital to their success.

“I guess it’s my turn,” Ananke said. She told them about her visit to the tailor shop. “Warren’s not on their upcoming schedule yet, but if he holds to pattern, he’ll be back in the next two or three days.”

“I like the sound of that,” Dylan said.

“Did you find out where he stays?” Liesel asked.

“I think so.” She told them about the address she’d found on the invoices for R. Valente. “I did a drive-by. It’s a condo complex in Clarke Quay. I searched ownership records and guess what? Von Rucker Industries owns three units, including a penthouse that matches the unit number on the invoice. My guess is the other units are used by Warren’s security people. One unit is next door to the penthouse. The other is on the first floor. It would be great to know for sure, though.”

“So, we go in and check,” Dylan said.

She nodded. “I was thinking someone could go tonight. But we stick to bugging the corridors outside the units and avoid any breaking and entering for now.”

“I’ll do it,” Ricky said.

Dylan raised his hand. “I’ll go with him. We’ll make it a boys’ night out.”

He smiled as if expecting Ricky to respond in a typical Ricky way, but instead, all Ricky said was, “Works for me.”

“All right, you two have Warren’s place, and the rest of us will take a stab at getting a better look at that warehouse.
