CHAPTER
TWENTY-ONE
By noon, the team had reassembled in the jetâs conference room.
Liesel and Ricky went first, sharing the pictures theyâd taken of the mysterious facility on Jurong Island.
âNo pictures of the backside?â Ananke asked.
âThere wasnât a road that led back there,â Liesel said. âAnd we were too exposed to use the drone.â
Ricky set his phone on the table. The map on the screen featured Jurong Island dead center, and parts of mainland Singapore along the left side and top. He pointed at the channel off the islandâs west coast.
âAll we need is a boat,â he said. âGo in at night, send the drone from here. We should be able to get the shots we need without ever going onshore.â
Ananke studied the map. The channel heâd pointed at was likely used by commercial shipping, so whichever team member went, Ananke wouldnât want them staying in the area too long. But it wasnât a bad idea. âSee what you can find out about patrols first. Then weâll talk about it.â She turned to Rosario and Dylan. âKreuger?â
âWe searched her condo and covered it with cameras,â Rosario said. âWhen sheâs home, she wonât be able to breathe without us knowing it.â
âDid you find anything?â
âNot sure yet. She had a safe. Iâve got pictures of everything that looked important and copied the thumb drives I found. I just need to go through it all.â
âWhat about her office?â Ananke asked.
Rosario shook her head. âWe couldnât find a way in that wasnât too risky.â
That was disappointing, but not unexpected. Keeping Avanti from knowing they were hunting him was vital to their success.
âI guess itâs my turn,â Ananke said. She told them about her visit to the tailor shop. âWarrenâs not on their upcoming schedule yet, but if he holds to pattern, heâll be back in the next two or three days.â
âI like the sound of that,â Dylan said.
âDid you find out where he stays?â Liesel asked.
âI think so.â She told them about the address sheâd found on the invoices for R. Valente. âI did a drive-by. Itâs a condo complex in Clarke Quay. I searched ownership records and guess what? Von Rucker Industries owns three units, including a penthouse that matches the unit number on the invoice. My guess is the other units are used by Warrenâs security people. One unit is next door to the penthouse. The other is on the first floor. It would be great to know for sure, though.â
âSo, we go in and check,â Dylan said.
She nodded. âI was thinking someone could go tonight. But we stick to bugging the corridors outside the units and avoid any breaking and entering for now.â
âIâll do it,â Ricky said.
Dylan raised his hand. âIâll go with him. Weâll make it a boysâ night out.â
He smiled as if expecting Ricky to respond in a typical Ricky way, but instead, all Ricky said was, âWorks for me.â
âAll right, you two have Warrenâs place, and the rest of us will take a stab at getting a better look at that warehouse.
